CUPCAKES, DELIA & CAKEY HI-JINX @ WESTFEST, WEST DIDSBURY, 4th & 5th SEPTEMBER

August 25th, 2010

Here at the dish and spoon HQ, we’re getting quite excited for a number of reasons:

1)     Some of our awesome 1950’s furniture has started to arrive for the shop  – think your gran’s kitchen store cupboard!

2)     Our snazzy, ultra wipe-cleanable kitchen floor has gone down (yep..just us that’s excited about that!)

3)     Burton Rd has a slight buzz about it just now, down we think, to the impending 2-day extravaganza that is Westfest

Westfest is a 2-day shindig (organised by the lovely peeps @ Didsbury Life) where all the fab local businesses along Burton Road throw open their doors, let their imaginations run wild and prodeliavide some general merriment for you the customer! Naturally, when we got wind of this we wanted to get well and truly involved! So, whilst we will still be up to our eyes in building work inside, we will be temporarily setting up shop outside for the 2 days.

General theme for our day will be the all-round goddess of baking and kitchen domesticity…Delia Smith. As well as mountains of cakes and cupcakes for your munching pleasure (and some free samples too!), there will be lots of chances to win goodies and discounts in the shop when it opens.

Check out everything that is going on at www.westfest.org.uk

vintage-scales-blog-postAfter 2 years, 2 months and a few more days of searching we’ve finally found the perfect place to set up a home for ‘And The Dish Ran Away With The Spoon’. The ink has dried on our lease and so we can now let you all know that you will be able to eat cake and drink tea courtesy of yours truly at 230 Burton Road, West Didsbury.

We’ve had some lovely times on the market (don’t worry we will still be doing them, never forget your roots…man!) and our little kitchen has served us well (we can’t even begin to count the number of cakes that have been produced out of it) but its time to spread our wings and flee the nest to Didsbury!!

In our small but perfectly formed shop, you will find a shrine to all things sweet; with cakes, slices, brownies and puddings baked fresh every day and some splendid tea and coffee to boot. You will also be available to browse our range of cakey gifts and accessories and admire our range of vintage baking paraphernalia! We’ll be holding events and classes (once we’ve settled in!) so keep an eye out here and on our Facebook and Twitter pages for dates and info.

A very big thanks to all of our lovely friends, family and fab customers who have supported us and spread our cake love over the last 2 years. We look forward to hopefully seeing you more regularly soon!!

P.S. The piccie is an example of the type of lovely aforementioned baking paraphenalia! We have a bit of an obesession with scales here :-)

CAMPER VANS, CAKES AND SERIOUSLY SLACK BLOGGING!

July 27th, 2010

camper-van-blog1Ok so if there was a ‘Slack Blogger of the Year’ awards held, we would surely win hands-down for the month of July. It isn’t because we didn’t want to talk to you lovely people, we have just been up to our ears in cake-related stuff (and we admit we did have a sneaky holiday in there too…only 3 days mind!) so for that we are truly sorry L.

Anyway, onto brighter and breezier stuff, we’ve been doing lots of lovely weddings including our favourite so far … the VW Camper Van wedding for Mark & Sian. As camper enthusiasts ourselves we were a little (too) excited when we heard about their ideas for their cakes. Check out the fab hand-carved campervan made by Sian’s dad..clever man!

Other than that, we’ve been beavering away on other FAIRLY BIG stuff which we still can’t tell you all about (should be able to in 4 weeks time!) and testing, testing, testing all ready for afore-mentioned big news J

Don’t forget we will next be at Didsbury Food Market on August 14th, Mr. Dish & Spoon (james) will be dazzling people with his cake serving skills so make sure you go and say hi!!
