Passionate, enthusiastic Junior/Apprentice Baker wanted for a part-time role (around 20hrs per week)

If you share our love of cake, are passionate about all things sweet, and are keen to develop and perfect your bakery skills and knowledge further in a commercial environment then this could be the perfect role for you!

Ideally you will:

• Be a regular amateur baker with a passion for all types of bakery work
• Have a meticulous eye for detail and quality
• Have experience of, and work well under pressure and to deadlines
• Have a passion for good food & drink in general
• Follow and have an understanding of baking and sweet trends
• Be passionate about working for and supporting independent business
• Experience in a commercial kitchen is preferable but not essential

• Totally Flexible and happy to work on Saturdays

You will be responsible for:

• Production of cakes and bakes for our tea-room, wholesale contracts and external catering service
• Helping to develop our product range and create new products and services
• Contributing to the continuing improvement of what we offer and the growth of the business
• Occasionally serving customers front-of-house

Part-time/Casual Sales Assistant/Barista

Outgoing, fun, food-loving individuals wanted for a part-time/casual sales assistant/barista role

If you share our love of cake, have experience as a sales assistant in a café, restaurant or tea room, and have a strong belief in independent business then we would like to hear from you.

You must be able to work every Sunday from 10am-6pm approx. You must also be flexible to work other shifts. Please do not apply if you cannot commit to this.

Ideally you will:

• Have experience of dealing with the public and can demonstrate great customer service skills
• Have excellent barista skills
• Love a good slab of cake, have an eye for a good tea & coffee and enjoy good food in general
• Have experience of working in a busy food service environment
• Have a meticulous eye for detail and work well under pressure in a busy environment
• Be able to work on your own initiative

The type of person we’re looking for:

• Dedicated, loyal, outgoing and happy
• Have a passion for good food & drink in general
• Be passionate about working for and supporting a small independent business
• Have a confident approach with customers
• Flexible and hard-working and not afraid of physical work or longer hours when required
• Happy to work  every Sunday

You will be responsible for:

• Serving our lovely teas, coffees and cakes to customers
• Dealing with customer enquiries for our growing external events and wholesale business
• Helping set-up external events such as Afternoon Teas from time-to-time
• Helping out in the kitchen as required

Spring Has Sprung Dessert Table

Last weekend, Manchester saw the cake extravaganza, The Cake and Bake Show, arrive in town! Taking place at Manchester Central, the three day event was something of a sugar Mecca, attracting visitors from far and wide. We were invited to display one of our delectable dessert tables; dessert tables are becoming a popular alternative to traditional wedding cakes, although are proving a good idea for any event with sweet-toothed attendees!

Grasshopper cake: no insects were harmed in the making of this cake.

We wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you for all the positive comments we received over the weekend: we were overwhelmed by the number of visitors who stopped to photograph our table and find out whether they could get their hands on the display cakes at the end of the day… We felt a bit mean showing off all our lovely cakes but not being able to feed you all at the show! Hopefully you’ve forgiven us for torturing you and you’ll be in for a piece of layer cake or afternoon tea some time soon

Superwoman Nicky has managed to successfully manage the tea-room every Sunday, giving up her weekends to ensure your cake is served with a smile, whilst training as a doctor during the week! Her hard-work and dedication (not to mention impressive willpower when offered cake!) will be much missed, and we’re sure Nicky will be fabulous in her future career. First stop, she’s off to Belize (talk about trying to get away from  us, hey?!), then on to London where she’ll start practice as a – sure to be brilliant – doctor. Good luck Nicky and don’t forget to visit!

As a token of our affection for all of our wonderful sweet-toothed customers, we’re staying open late on the 14th, and are taking bookings up until 6pm for our couples afternoon tea. We know that you love our brownies and we love you so much that we wanted to provide a service that means you can get hold of our brownies without even getting out of your PJs! It’s important to get a duvet day booked in every now and then, and to ensure that space in your diary isn’t lonely, we’ve brought you The Brownie Post to keep you company.

That’s not to say that our delectable brownies are something to keep to yourself! The Brownie Post also makes a fantastic present to send to loved ones, wherever they are in the U.K (it’s true what they say about Northerners, we are a friendly bunch, so friendly in fact that we’re willing to share our beloved brownies with the rest of you!). We’re hoping that soon people all over the U.K will have heard about the Brownie Post and will be able to treat themselves – or others – to our homemade brownies, sent from our little kitchen here in West Didsbury.

There’s a whopping twelve flavours to choose from and you can order by the half-dozen or (if you are feeling particularly greedy) dozen. All of our brownies are lovingly hand-wrapped in fancy pants packaging and popped in a nice little box that will fit in nearly all letterboxes (meaning you can rip that package open the second you get in from work – not after waiting in a post office queue!). Ideally you will:

• Have considerable experience (of which some must be in a supervisory/management capacity) in a customer-facing, food-service role
• Have experience of supervising staff and suppliers to ensure the smooth-running of a busy café/bar or similar environment
• Have excellent barista skills and be comfortable with operating a coffee machine
• Demonstrate excellent customer service and organisational skills
• Be familiar with social media (twitter and facebook etc.) and ideally have used it for marketing purposes in the past
• Have experience within an admin role and demonstrate good IT skills
• Have a meticulous eye for detail and work well under pressure in a busy environment

The type of person we’re looking for:

• Dedicated, loyal, outgoing and happy
• Have a passion for good food & drink in general
• Be passionate about working for and supporting a small independent business
• Have a confident approach with customers
• Flexible and hard-working and not afraid of physical work or longer hours when required

You will be responsible for:

• The management and smooth running of our tea-room at weekends (including staff management, stock control, cashing-up, kitchen liaison and customer service)
• Promoting our business through social media, web and email marketing
• Managing the admin system to support our external wedding and events service
• Helping to develop new products and services and contribute to the continuing improvement of what we offer and the growth of the business
