At ‘and the dish ran away with the spoon’, we freshly bake, ice and hand decorate the yummiest cupcakes, cakes, brownies and slices every day.
We serve up our delicious cakes at our Didsbury cake shop & tea-room, and deliver them to the cake-loving masses across Manchester, Cheshire & the North West. A lot of love goes into each and every item we make, and we use local, fair-trade and organic ingredients wherever we can.
Wash down your cakes with our great coffees and loose-leaf teas inside our tea-room (which has featured in The Independent’s Top 50 Tea Rooms in the UK!), or take-out to enjoy at home (and maybe even pass off as your own!)
Weddings, Celebrations & Catering…
There are very few occasions that we can’t cater for with cake! From weddings and christenings, to hen parties and birthday celebrations, our team of bakers can provide a bespoke cake selection that suits your occasion perfectly.
We are specialists in wedding and celebration catering, offering beautiful wedding cupcake towers, cake and dessert tables and a full afternoon tea along with vintage crockery for up to 200 guests.
Afternoon Tea & Baked Breakfast
We serve Afternoon Tea in the tea-room from Thursday to Sunday from 1pm. Reservations are essential. Expect generous portions, fluffy scones, lovely sarnies, refreshing loose leas teas and a selection of our lovely cakes!
Our ‘baked breakfast‘ is now served all week from opening til 1pm-ish. All week long you can expect toasted banana bread, home-made granola and sourdough toast served with hand-made curds, jams and local honey. And at weekends, you can enjoy baked breakfast treats like cinnamon rolls, pastries and breakfast muffins.

Our Story
In March 2008, Anna & James came home from a winter ‘down under’. Inspired by the amazing cakes and cupcakes they tried on their trip, they returned with a sweeter tooth, slightly bulging waistlines and a determination to start their very own cake revolution!
So the clever one (Anna), jacked in her steady job, donned an apron, grabbed a wooden spoon and set about some serious cake baking…and hey diddle diddle, ‘and the dish ran away with the spoon’ was born!
…ten’s of farmer’s markets, thousands of cakes and a couple of years of hardcore baking later, they finally found a permanent home (and a posh kitchen) on lovely Burton Road in West Didsbury in Oct 2010.
